The world has changed a lot since the release of Clark’s introspective third LP, ‘Hypervigilant’ in late 2019. The global pandemic has affected virtually every country in the world, forcing millions into quarantine and isolation for months on end. As grim of a reality that humanity is facing together, there lies a silver lining; a once in a lifetime opportunity to be able to put a pause on life. An opportunity to sit with ourselves, to introspect and search for what is really important in this life. That is exactly what Steven A. Clark is doing with his new single “I Wish” - a lofi alternative R&B number in which Clark reflects on his past relationship with his family and his insecurities that surround that, shining a light of awareness on past pain in an effort to finally move past it. The beat holds an elegantly simple drum machine beat throughout, supported by nostalgia-inducing, chorused out strummed guitar chords. The song hits like the first breath of fresh air after wearing a mask all day, serving as a reminder that the key to sanity in this unpredictable and ever changing world that we live in is to find pleasure in the little things.
